These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of thedappledwood.com and any purchases made through our website, at in-person markets, workshops, pop-up events, or through any other sales channel operated by The Dappled Wood ("we," "us," or "our").

By accessing our website, purchasing our products, registering for an event, or otherwise using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms, along with our Privacy Policy and Returns & Refunds Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our website or services.

Our online store is powered by Shopify, which provides the ecommerce platform that enables us to offer our products and services online.

Using Our Website

You agree to use our website only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.

You may not:

  • Use our website in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our website, servers, or customer accounts.

Handmade Products

Every piece sold by The Dappled Wood is individually handcrafted in our Maryland studio.

Unlike mass-produced products, handmade jewelry naturally varies from piece to piece. Slight differences in color, texture, pattern, shape, placement of details, finish, or overall appearance are an expected part of the handmade process and contribute to the uniqueness of each item.

These natural variations are not considered defects and are part of what makes handmade work special.

Whenever possible, we photograph the actual product or an accurate representation of the design being offered. Colors may appear differently depending on screen settings, lighting conditions, and photography.

Product Availability

Many of our collections are produced in small batches or as limited releases.

As a result:

  • Styles, colorways, hardware, or collections may be retired without notice.
  • Inventory displayed online is subject to availability.
  • Certain products may sell out before inventory updates are completed.
  • We reserve the right to discontinue products at any time.

If supplier availability changes, we may substitute comparable findings, hardware, or packaging materials provided the substitution does not materially affect the quality, appearance, functionality, or value of the finished product.

If we are unable to fulfill your order, we'll notify you promptly and offer an appropriate solution, including a refund where applicable.

Product Information

We work hard to provide accurate descriptions, measurements, photographs, pricing, and availability.

However, occasional errors may occur.

We reserve the right to:

  • Correct pricing errors.
  • Correct typographical or technical errors.
  • Update product descriptions.
  • Modify pricing without prior notice.
  • Cancel or refuse orders that contain incorrect pricing or inaccurate product information.

If an error affects your order after it has been placed, we'll contact you as soon as reasonably possible to explain the situation and discuss your available options.

Ordering & Payment

Submitting an order does not guarantee acceptance.

We reserve the right to decline, limit, or cancel orders that:

  • Appear fraudulent.
  • Violate these Terms.
  • Cannot reasonably be fulfilled.
  • Are believed to be placed for resale without authorization.
  • Involve pricing or inventory errors.

If we cancel an order after payment has been processed, we'll issue a full refund to the original payment method unless another resolution is agreed upon.

Customers are responsible for providing accurate billing, shipping, and contact information. Orders delayed or returned because of inaccurate information may be subject to additional shipping charges.

Custom Orders

From time to time, The Dappled Wood may accept custom or personalized orders.

Because these pieces are created specifically for you:

  • Production times may differ from our standard processing times.
  • Custom orders may require approval before production begins.
  • Once production has started, custom orders generally cannot be canceled, returned, or refunded except where required by law or where we have made an error.
  • We reserve the right to decline custom requests that fall outside our capabilities, production schedule, or brand standards.

Artificial Intelligence & Digital Content

The Dappled Wood embraces modern technology while remaining committed to honest and accurate representation of our products.

We may use artificial intelligence and other digital tools to assist with:

  • Product photography enhancement.
  • Background removal or replacement.
  • Lifestyle mockups.
  • Image editing.
  • Marketing materials.
  • Educational content.
  • Customer communications.
  • Business operations.

Our use of these tools is intended to improve the customer experience, not to misrepresent our products.

We do not intentionally use AI-generated imagery, video, or written content to mislead customers regarding the appearance, size, materials, craftsmanship, quality, or functionality of our products.

Some lifestyle imagery, promotional graphics, or conceptual content may be digitally created or enhanced for illustrative purposes. Whenever practical, product listings also include photographs that accurately represent the handcrafted item being offered.

If you have questions about a product before purchasing, we're always happy to provide additional photos or information.

AI Shopping Assistants & Automated Purchasing

Customers may choose to shop using AI-powered shopping assistants, browser tools, or other automated purchasing technologies provided by third parties.

Orders submitted through these services are treated the same as orders placed directly by customers.

Customers remain responsible for reviewing product descriptions, pricing, processing times, materials, measurements, shipping information, and other listing details before completing a purchase.

The Dappled Wood is not responsible for errors, omissions, or purchasing decisions made by third-party AI services or automated shopping tools.

Product Safety

Our jewelry is designed as a fashion accessory and is intended for general wear unless otherwise specified.

Please note:

  • Our jewelry is not a toy and should be kept out of reach of infants, young children, and pets, as small components may present a choking hazard.

  • Customers are responsible for determining whether a product is appropriate for the intended wearer, including individuals with known metal sensitivities or allergies.

  • While many of our products feature premium hypoallergenic materials such as stainless steel, surgical steel, or gold-filled components, individual sensitivities may vary, and we cannot guarantee compatibility for every wearer.

  • Jewelry should be removed before swimming, bathing, sleeping, exercising, or engaging in activities that may expose it to excessive moisture, chemicals, or impact.

  • We are not responsible for damage or injury resulting from misuse, improper care, unauthorized repairs, modifications, accidents, or normal wear over time.

Jewelry Care & Repairs

With proper care, your handcrafted jewelry is designed to be enjoyed for years.

To help preserve your jewelry, we recommend storing it in a cool, dry place and avoiding prolonged exposure to water, perfumes, lotions, cleaning products, and harsh chemicals.

If your jewelry becomes damaged through normal wear, please contact us. Repair requests are reviewed individually, and while repairs cannot be guaranteed, we'll always do our best to help restore your piece whenever reasonably possible.

If you're attending one of our markets or events, you're welcome to stop by our booth. We keep a variety of tools and materials on hand and, whenever possible, can perform minor repairs or adjustments while you shop. More extensive repairs may require us to bring the item back to our studio for evaluation.

Repair fees, replacement parts, or shipping costs may apply depending on the nature of the repair and the age or condition of the item.

Markets, Workshops & Public Events

The Dappled Wood regularly participates in public markets, festivals, workshops, educational events, and other community experiences.

By attending one of our events or participating in a workshop or class, you acknowledge that participation is voluntary and involves ordinary risks associated with public events and hands-on crafting activities.

Workshop participants agree to:

  • Follow all verbal and written safety instructions.
  • Use tools, paints, adhesives, and other materials responsibly.
  • Exercise reasonable care for their own safety and the safety of others.
  • Supervise any minor children attending with them unless otherwise stated.
  • Treat instructors, staff, other participants, and event property with respect.

We reserve the right to refuse participation or remove any individual whose behavior creates a safety concern, disrupts the experience of others, or violates these Terms.

Workshop registrations, event tickets, or class fees may be subject to separate cancellation or rescheduling policies communicated at the time of registration.

Event Purchases

The Dappled Wood sells products both online and at in-person events.

Please note that:

  • Prices, promotions, and inventory may vary between our website, retail partners, and in-person events.
  • Event-exclusive promotions cannot be applied to previous or future purchases unless specifically stated.
  • Exchanges completed at markets are subject to available inventory.
  • Studio visits, repairs, returns, and exchanges are available by appointment unless otherwise arranged.

Photography, Video & User Generated Content

One of our favorite parts of running The Dappled Wood is seeing our jewelry worn and shared by our community.

If you:

  • Tag The Dappled Wood on social media,
  • Use one of our branded hashtags,
  • Submit a review that includes photos or videos,
  • Share photos or videos with us directly,
  • Tag or upload content taken at one of our booths or events,
  • Voluntarily participate in photographs, interviews, testimonials, or videos with our team,
  • Model, demonstrate, or showcase our products for us,

you grant The Dappled Wood a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, reproduce, edit, publish, distribute, display, and share that content for marketing, promotional, educational, editorial, and business purposes across our website, social media, email marketing, printed materials, advertising, and other media now known or developed in the future.

Whenever practical, we're happy to credit the original creator.

If you later wish to withdraw permission for future marketing use, please contact us at hello@thedappledwood.com. We'll make reasonable efforts to honor future requests; however, previously published, printed, distributed, archived, or licensed materials may continue to exist.

Photography and video are frequently captured during public markets, workshops, and community events. By attending these public events, you acknowledge that you may appear incidentally in photographs or videos documenting the event.

If you would prefer not to be photographed or filmed, please let a member of our team know. While we'll make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request, we cannot guarantee that incidental appearances in crowd photography or video can always be avoided.
